The future targets include: expand the number of container ships, develop the Port as a distribution center, transport center for processing and export warehouse, develop the west wharf to become the biggest chemical and petroleum transport center, and the creation of an water front amusement park. The Port of Taichung plans to accumulate a range of equipment to meet the demands of the international freight market and business investment bodies. In the future the expansion plans include expanding the business port and industrial port to make the Port of Taichung a world class international port with 83 wharves and the widest array of functions and services.
