Taichung port geographical superiority

1.The scope of the port area is vast, and has the potential of being developed into regional processing reexportation and the physical distribution center

The total area of Taichung Port amounts to 3,793 hectares, being the biggest international commercial harbor in Taiwan. It has various specialized area, providing the cargo owner to store up the cargo, to assemble, to do simple processing, and it is being the subpackage allocation center, and the network center of regional processing reexportation and rear service of physical distribution. All of these enhances the cargo attachment value.

2.The geographical position is moderate and the transportation is away from short

　Taichung Port is located in central Taiwan with approximately 110 nautical miles from north Keelung Port and 120 nautical miles from south Kaohsiung port separately, Not only it being the transportation center of northern and southern Taiwan, but the center point of the route from Shanghai to Hong Kong, extending out to southeast coastal ports of mainland displaying a radial shape equal-lengthened. Taichung Port has the shortest distance from mainland which reduces the navigation time and transportation cost.

3.Perfect highway system for connecting outside roads

(1)Five highways stretching out

　Roads of Extra one, Extra two, Extra three, Taiwan 17, Taiwan 61 link to provincial roads in radial shape and the federal highway, leading a rapid pass through Taiwan.

(2)North-south railroad submarine cable

　Connects north and south Taiwan, and suits the massive transportation.

(3)Close to central International airport, and convenient for sea and air combined transportation.

4.The Best Harbor for the Direct Navigation at Both Straits.

　Taichung Port's geographical position is the closest to southeast coastal ports in mainland. The superiority for the direct navigation at both straits is foreseeable.

5. It Is Close to Many Industrial Districts and Export Processing District

　Taichung Portis close to Jhangbin Industrial District, GuanlianTanzih Industrial District, Jhonggang sub-processing region and Central Taiwan Science Park, having benefits in the development of processing exportation, warehousing transportation, enhancing the cargo attachment value.

6.Harbor Work Privatization

　Taichung Port's loading & unloading of the warehouse has been open to private investment since the very beginning. There were more than 51 manufacturers with the total amount surpassing 3,491 hundred million Yuan. The industries invested includs the cereal, the cement, the coal, the fluid goods (including oil, chemical, and sugar honey), etc. Its loading and unloading facilities were all invested by private enterprises. The entrepreneur is highly independent in managing.

7.Informational Harbor Management

　Taichung Port has quite a scale of promoting computerization of navigation business. For example, the already completed harbor work system of the Taichung Harbor Bureau, the visa management system of in and out of the port, the public construction bidding and notice connection system, the free commercial harbor area cabinet (thing) controls temporary plan system and so on.Besides all computer connection of shipping merchants with Taichung Port area, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, Directorate General of Customs, security inspections, hygienic, shipping merchants, banks, and loading & unloading operation unit connection are increasing the administrative efficiency. Websites were set up forthe domestic and foreign entrepreneurs to inquire and download both static and dynamic data.In the future there will be step by step exploitation of Computerization Sole Window Work, The Electron Bill, Receipts and Disbursements System, WWW Connection System of Harbor Work, The Commercial Harbor Service Fee Levies System, Marine Transportation Information Communication System (MT-NET central website) and The Establishment of The Sole Window Service Platform of The Navigation Port, Harbor Country Control System and the Shipping Industry & In and Out Port Visa Management System, and Detail Plans Establishment of the Harbor Information System and so on. Taichung Harbor has been developed into an intelligent port with high additional value.
