|
The “Pipe Line Handling Data Electronic Transmission” promoted by the Taichung Harbor Bureau has completed the system launching and system testing in mid June, with two-way operations began on July 1, and the system will be formally inducted online starting on August 1, 2009. Taichung Harbor Bureau’s container (at approximately 49.97%), bulk and general cargo (at approximately 40.49%), and pipe line (at approximately 9.54%) handling data transmission work has achieved 100% of the objective.
As opposed to over 12,000 paper documents the cargo handling operators need to file with the Taichung Harbor Bureau annually, the full induction of handling data electronic transmission is poised to conserve the paper cost and the operators’ manpower for sending the data back and forth, and that the time for obtaining the handling data after the vessel leaves the harbor has been cut down from the previous 4 days to now within 2 days to greatly improve the operating efficiency. Since the handling data transmitting work has been revamped online, the container (since January 15, 2008) , bulk and general cargo (since February 1, 2009) handling data transmission work has to the date (June 26, 2009) achieved separately 7,678 transactions and 801 transactions of data. The surveyors, tally clerks and handling operators could enter the data promptly, and in time, for which the Bureau is appreciative of the operators’ support and cooperation.
As the Taichung Harbor Bureau’s wireless network in the port area, once launched in the West Terminal in September 2009, will soon be providing free and convenient real-time network transmission to ocean carriers and freight owners. Taichung Harbor Bureau will further develop the PDA version of layout for surveys and for tally clerks to transmit the data, which is expected to make it convenient surveyors and tally clerks to key in the survey and handling data, and to excel the port area’s computerized information services.
