Chapter23---Taichung Harbor Bureau and Whaleship Warehouse & Logistics Ltd. Completed the Contract Signing Ceremony for the Project of Land Investment in Logistics Specialized Zone (II) |

Taichung Harbor Bureau and Whaleship Warehouse & Logistics Ltd. held the contract signing ceremony this morning for the "Project of Land Investment in the Logistics Specialized Zone on the third line of Wharf No.8 of Taichung Harbor." The ceremony was simple but solemn. Relevant shipowners, ship agencies and foreign clients all attended this ceremony where harmonious and happy atmosphere pervades.
In order to make the best use of lands of port and to create added value of the port, Taichung Harbor Bureau organized the rear of Wharf No.9 to No.19 as logistics specialized zone (II) and invited public bidding for the third-line land of Wharf No. 8 in the end of 2008. Whaleship Warehouse & Logistics Ltd. won the bidding. It considers that Taichung Harbor is located in an appropriate geographical site and has the advantage of convenient access. Plus the turning point of the direct cross-strait sailing, this company chooses the third-line land of Wharf No.8 to build pulp logistics warehouses. After the construction is finished, the business of Free Trade Zone will be added, and the company will engage in transship business of dry cargo, such as pulp, aluminum ingots, steel coils, and etc. by making use of the tax exemption preference of "inside the country but outside of customs territory."
This investment project covers about one hectare. Whaleship Warehouse & Logistics plans to invest 80 million NT dollars to construct a modernized warehouses and related facilities. The zone will start its operation from the forth quarter of 2009. This investment project can realize the policy of "Rooted in Taiwan", increase tax revenue about 1.7 million NT dollars per year for National Treasury, elevate the cargo throughput of import and export about 50 thousand tons, create local employment, facilitate the prosperous development of logistics in the harbor zone, vitalize the industrial economy of the mid-Taiwan area, and greatly elevate Taiwan's status in the global supply chain.
